What is a stoma belt?

A stoma belt is an elasticated support belt that helps to hold a stoma bag in place securely. It wraps around your waist and attaches to the flange or wafer of your stoma appliance, providing additional support and reducing the risk of the bag shifting, especially during physical activities.

Do I need to use a stoma belt?

You may need to use a stoma belt if you require extra security to keep your stoma bag in place, particularly if you’re active or have difficulty keeping the flange securely attached. Stoma belts can also help prevent leaks, provide comfort, and offer extra support if you have a hernia near the stoma.

How do I wear a stoma support belt?

To wear a stoma support belt:

• Attach the Belt: Connect the belt to the loops or tabs on the flange or wafer of your stoma bag.
• Position the Belt: Wrap the belt around your waist, ensuring it sits comfortably and securely against your abdomen.
• Adjust for Comfort: Adjust the belt so it is snug but not too tight, ensuring it holds the stoma bag in place without causing discomfort or restricting movement.
• Check for Security: Make sure the belt is secure and the bag is well-supported, especially if you’re engaging in physical activity.
